Filed end of March,
Status finally updated today that it will be sent August 4th
Got it on the 4th.
Funniest thing happened, they went and sent me the 1400 stimulus from this year a few days afterwards :)

Are they going to send a 1099 for it?

I got one for this past year.

Just got (with a few dollars of interest).

I just got a large (for me) deposit from the IRS.

I already got my tax return (with a few dollars of interest), so it's not that (unless they decided to pay an extra 30% interest...).

I already got my stimulus (and the plus up) so it's not that.

I already got 2 CTC payments so it's not that. My payments were a few hundred dollars short, but this is a lot more than that.

Also, it was a random number (including 35 cents) so that rules out the last 2.

My only thought is that they adjusted my return because of the unemployment exemption, but my calculations were that it wouldn't change my refund much if at all.

Anyone have any ideas on where is came from? Or who I can contact so that they don't arrest me for not returning it?

They should send you a letter explaining the adjustment, but note that the UI adjustment can affect other credits such as EITC, which is why you might have qualified for a much larger refund than expected.

The deposit will have some acronyms in it
For example I just got a catchup deposit for EIP3 (round number though)

It says "TAX REF" so I guess it's this -

they adjusted my return because of the unemployment exemption.

I guess my calculations were off...

I just got the adjustment refund for the unemployment insurance taxes, was pretty decent, I guess because of the additional credits I was now eligible for.

Finally!
Filed end of April (or maybe the first week of May). As per the IRS website, it has been approved and I should be getting the refund by next week.

are the delays in refunds specifically related to those who filed for pandemic unemployment or is it flat across all cases?

BH I never had to file for the pandemic unemployment so my guess is it's not related

I think it’s mostly either unemployment or claiming the economic impact payments that wasn’t received through the year

its anything that "needs eyeballs"
Form 7202 sick pay
Unemployment
having a baby and needing an adjustment for stimulus (or any recovery rebate credit)
other anomalies or flags like big changes in income, deductions
