I get the sentiment, but טעות עכום isn't a new thing (though arguable if it applies here directly, the concept isn't new).

Here is a simple explanation as to why a Jew can benefit from a mistake made by a non-Jew, or keep an item lost by a non-Jew:

Common practice is "finders keepers, losers weepers." When you lose something, or when you post a pricing error, etc., you don't expect anyone to return it or correct the mistake. That is accepted international practice, and that is what is mandated by Jewish law.

However... there is a club, and one of the perks of the club is that club members return lost items to each other, even though it is not otherwise required. Club members also correct pricing mistakes of other club members, and do not lend with interest to fellow club members. All these practices are not mandated by basic international etiquette, but just as any fraternity has certain added loyalties, so too club members have certain loyalties that are NOT REQUIRED by standard morals.

Who can join the club? ANYONE! But club rules require keeping the 613 bylaws. You do not need to be born into the club to get the perks, but you must undertake to follow all the rules. If you are willing, you will also get all the club's perks. Chose not to? That's okay. You will not be treated any less. But you are simply not eligible for fraternity loyalty perks.

Mind-blowing!!

Like, c'mon, duh

If the guy might be an Orthodox Jew, I'll go to great lengths to verify if I should cancel it because I wouldn't want to make an Orthodox Jew loose money, but if it's a goy, (or if it's partially owned by a Jew, who doesn't close down the store which he has shares in, on Shabbos) then I couldn't give a damn about him loosing money.

... What have we come to...
It is very Simple, no one expects me to not buy it or give it back period, after all that`s what DDF is about "finders keepers". And if you checked my post I never wrote anything about "Orthodox Jew" I wrote if the owner is Jewish I would give it back.

Then I made a statement that the permission of keeping price mistakes of a public company that has Jewish investors is the same of "them" keeping there stocks or investments in a public company that operates on Shabbos. The amount I estimated of this current price mistake is over $1300 loss in just what I bought so I`m Just trying doing the right thing. :) :) :)

I`m not a racist but being Jewish comes with benefits!!

When your wife asks you if an outfit makes her look fat, you answer, "not any more fat than you actually are", right?

One of the best explanations I have ever seen of this difficult concept.  Superb.

Very nice. Did u come up with this yourself or read it somewhere?
I wouldn't necessarily use it for taus akum (as there is room for chilul hashem), but as for lanochri tishoch, it's such a perfect explanation
