President Biden is commemorating the centennial of "the single worst incident of racial violence in American history," according to the Oklahoma Historical Society, and until two years ago, most Americans had never even heard of it.

Imagine a Jew or German not hearing of the Holocaust. I was taught all about the Civil Rights movement and slavery, KKK and MLK in school, but not about this.

Serious issues should not be in JS. I reported many topics in JS to have them move to GD.

The scale of the Holocaust itself should be a reason everyone should know about it. This is specific to the US.

Vox had a good piece on it a few years ago, and then the recent TV adaptation of Watchmen dramatized it in the opening scene of the first episode, including showing the fact that attackers use airplanes to fire rifles and drop firebombs.

I would add that this story with the discovery of a mass grave at an indigenous reeducation school in Canada is another example of terrible history people just don't know about (similar system existed in US).

This. If you asked me before today if I heard of it I'd say no. But now that I read the Wikipedia article I vaguely remember reading about a similar story and am still not sure if it was this.

Can you imagine how a black feels? They were killing us 100 years ago and still are. Only now they have nice uniforms. Don't shoot the messenger.

Yes we definitely can imagine. This is our past, present, and future. Don't need to look back 100 years to understand how people can ignore these types of events. In 2021, racist attacks against Jews are 1000x worse (relatively) than blacks yet get 1 trillionth of the attention*.

Though if you want to compare histories, don’t need to go back 100 years to see we’ve suffered a lot worse than the Tulsa massacre many times in many different regions.
