Which Cell Phone Service Should I Get?
« on: June 13, 2021, 04:59:00 PM »
Hi, I just bought a Fully Unlocked iPhone X.

I only need service for 2-3 months so a sign up discount would work for me.

I'm going to be upstate for the summer, so the service needs to work there.

I need one line and fast data is important.

As of now I'm leaning towards Wing AT&Ts Unlimited Plus plan. They offered me 50% off my second month of service and they have pretty good CS for a phone company (I use them for my flip phone). Has anyone here used Wing upstate?

Has anyone tried H20? How much data do they actually give you on the Unlimited+ plan?

Anyone use Verizon? Sprint?

Mint Mobile (T-Mobile) is probably the cheapest introductory service you can get: $15/Mo for 4GB or $20/Mo for 10GB for the first 3 months. But it's prepaid for 3 months upfront. So if your 2-3 months is really 2 then it might not be the best deal.

I'm going to be using a lot of data so I don't think Mint Mobile is going to work for me.

Data speeds reduce after 35GB but data is unlimited

What does it reduce to? 2G? Is there good service upstate?

Depends where upstate. And what state. Why not check the coverage map?

The map is a bit confusing. This means that there is coverage?

Yes. Dark green = 5G/LTE coverage. Zoom out and you'll see some mountainous areas with no coverage.

Liberty, NY is definitely not "upstate" (unless you're from the 5 boroughs in which case anything north of Monsey is upstate).

I think ill pass on Mint because of the data limit. Is there really 5G up there?

I believe Mint is just an MVNO (on T-mobile?), they don’t have any towers in the first place, they just sell their own branded service and plans, but the network isn’t theirs.

I believe most MVNO's have data limits if not all services in general. Above a certain limit they cap your speeds.

Yes, but this is capped at 35GB/mo. Wing is 100GB a month then 2G.
Anyone use Google Fi?

I don't believe there is a data or speed cap on visible service ($25 a month if you join a party). It's an mnvo of Verizon.

Visible looks good. I've got a few questions.
How do I become eligible for the $100 bonus? Anyone here in a "party"?

Port your number, keep the plan for 2 months to get the $100.

Heres a party to join:

Can I do that and also get the $100? How much will my service cost if I join that party? Are there really no Data Caps with visible?

Just realize that visible is not the same as Verizon. Their service is not given the same priority as vzw.
For many this isnt an issue, just a heads up.
Ping levels are high, web can be intermittent and even calls aren't the same..

I see all over the Web that Visible is owned by Verizon. Are they still deprioritized?

Question: If I port in a number to Visible and get the $100 GC after two months of service (which will cost me about $50) wont I be "making" money off the service?
