Whoever says newborns are cute are lying to you. Every newborn on earth looks like a wrinkled potato and you can't convince me otherwise.

(My daughter was a notable exception to this rule.)

My second daughter was born a few days ago and everyone is busy trying to figure out who she looks like, her sister, mother, me, this bubbe, that tante etc.

IMHO she (and all newborns) just looks like a baby and all resemblance at this point is contrived.

What do you all think?

When there are very distinctive physical features (such as a certain shape of lips, ears, and sometimes eyes or nose) those can be sometimes be recognized even in newborns.

I used to be in the 'all babies look alike' camp. (Mostly - my first looked like my (disliked) father in law as soon as I saw her.  She still does, but it's grown on me.)


But now that I'm  up to grandchildren, I realize that the nursery ( pre-covid) is full of babies that look different than I expect.  And my own grandkids sometimes have such a different look, that I have to chalk it up to looking like the other side.

1) All newborns look gross.*
2) They can still look like someone. (When my second child was born, I posted a pic of my first child on family groups thinking no one would be the wiser, and almost everyone realized).

*Unlike SF, my kids were REALLY the exception proving the rule, but I think it is to do with the fact that they were fat. Fat babies are scientifically proven to be cuter. So maybe SF also had a fat baby?

The best way to really know is to compare a baby picture from that age to the newborn baby.

Newborn looks like x is sheer projection, they might resemble multiple family members in various aspects, but they ultimately look like themselves.
