What do you think happens to that site once it's all demo'd and cleared? It's pretty prime real estate if the soil can support a building for more than 40 years.

My guess is it gets rebuilt, with a memorial.

They’ll have to first conclusively find the cause (or at least cover all the bases as far as the land, soil, foundation requirements etc.).

The condo owners (or their heirs R”L) still share ownership for the land and it’s possible (maybe likely? Idk) that they’ll get insurance money.

The number of confirmed deaths remains at 24, Levine Cava said, and 121 people are unaccounted for.

If anyone is that interested you can probably locate the Master Deed for these condos filed with the county office. Dunno if they have records online for a 40+ year old project. It usually contains language which discusses what happens in the event of a total loss.

I imagine it'll be hard to sell condos on this site after this collapse, especially if there's a memorial onsite to remind people of it.

Even what is already known is explained very well in this video. Better than I have seen elsewhere.

I would agree that he did a nice job putting it all together. But his observations about spot 78 are not unique besides his conclusions.

True but when I saw the title I figured it wasn’t worth watching but I gave it a shot anyways. I would say worth watching if you ignore the title and last minute.

Surfside always has a nice fireworks show on the beach for 4th of July. Canceled this year.

Early reports are pointing to less rebar in the parking garage support columns than the original plans.

The company who built the building was in financial trouble when built. They've been defunct for 20 years now.

3 days before the building fell they accused the city of Surfside of delaying their repairs. For this last point I have no doubt. Permitting in Surfside is an absolute nightmare even for something that is crucial. Building committee has always had deaf ears and a slow process.

He put it all together nicely in a very clear fashion (although he does take too long getting to the point) doing a good job showing how everything comes together. You do need to separate what is fact and what is conjecture.

"County authorities don’t plan evacuations in the Surfside neighborhood that surrounds the remaining structure Champlain Towers South, now set to be demolished by the end of the day.

Instead, nearby residents are being told to plan to remain inside, with the air-conditioning off and windows closed, once the demolition countdown begins.

“We encourage you to close all of the windows and the doors and all air intakes, and to cover all other openings that may allow dust to enter,” Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said Sunday during a briefing at the county’s Emergency Operations center in Doral. The county moved its official emergency command to Doral once Levine Cava prepared countywide preparation for Tropical Storm Elsa, which is expected to bring gusty wind and rain on Monday but not a direct hit.

Levine Cava said the county doesn’t yet have a start time for the demolition, which will use explosives designed to bring down the remaining structure within the footprint of its existing walls.

Kevin Guthrie, head of emergency management for Florida, said he expects search efforts to resume “minutes” after the demolition. “Within a matter of minutes...they will be back on the scene,” he said."
