14 more victims were found in the rubble overnight, bringing the death toll from the Surfside condo collapse to 78, with dozens more missing.

The way they are now finding victims at such a fast pace leads to a question of whether the risk of them staying there for such a long time was truly worth taking to avoid possible shifts in the rubble killing a survivor.

Questioning their tactics at this point seems in bad taste already. All the experts agreed from what I understand.

But that said, we don't know so many things, speculating based on this and that with so few facts seems pointless to me.

BH not a single serious injury happened to the rescue workers so far. That is a miracle in itself.

The pile is very different now than it was 2 weeks ago.

In what sense?

Over 9 million pounds removed, for starters.
They can cover all angles without fear of a collapse.

I fully get all of that. They are definitely moving faster and need to take less care now because they are assuming there are no remaining survivors. That makes sense. On the other hand the extra care taken to avoid shifts in the rubble killing survivors definitely made things move slower. It is a balance between the two and there is no right or wrong answer-only two wrong answers because there will always be the room to second guess what could have been had they gone the other direction.

Again, we have so few facts. And going into each argument seems crude at this point imo.

But...

There was a significant fire that burned for days, 2 weeks ago.

There were still voids 2 weeks ago. Voids are good for possible survivors, bad for shifts. Now there are no voids, meaning less chance of shift.

There was a partially standing building that could come down at any time 2 weeks ago. Additionally that building blocked a massive part of the site for access.

There was a hope to find survivors 2 weeks ago, you can't use machinery to scoop up a pile of concrete if you are hoping to find people inside of it.

It was MUCH bigger 2 weeks ago.

Those come to mind, I'm sure experts can list many more differences.

.

They said they haven't found any pockets or voids where people could have survived.

I guess they were talking about additional ones since they moved to recovery.

Honestly, I'm not questioning the accuracy of the statement. At this point, I don't think it's helpful for the families to be obsessing over what-ifs regarding the rescue efforts. IMO, they need to be processing the finality of the tragedy and finding a way forward. I think that this statement re the lack of voids may help with that.

I meant in regards to there not being survivable voids.

That means if she was in a void they either got to her or the void filled in since. Many people haven't been identified yet...

It’s enough. If not for the fire they would’ve probably had her.

i should just look for the article and link
but no it wasn't so simple there was a dumpster, metal rebar, and a wall of concrete preventing them from reaching her

Don't think so. It took until yesterday, to finally reach someone on a low floor.
