What happened to drag-and-drop? Is that too offensive sounding?

Ok so I have a 2 Year-old Dell XPS 13 9300.
I ok willing to switch to windows 11, but I cant bring myself to download it manually.
Question:
Why doesn't it come up automatically with the regular Windows updates?

What do you mean?
You can't drag something into the taskbar on Windows 11. For example, if you want to attach a document to an email, you can't drag it to the Gmail icon on the taskbar and expect the Gmail window to open so that you can drop it into an email. You have to have the screen already open in order for you to drop it there.

If the computer is up-to-date and supported it should pop up in Windows updates.

Yeah, thats probably one of the biggest regressions they made. Supposedly they didn't intend to keep it this way, just that they redid the task bar code completely and drag-and-drop wasn't as simple to get to work with the new code (It's mind boggling such an excuse from a company like this... But what can you do...)

They're going to bring it back in an update.

Wow that is BAD. I hate when they ruin these small stuff.

Well it is...And its not. Anyone else have same model? Sometimes I think they might wait for Dell to push the update once they do whatever they are supposed to do with it. (fix it? break it?

Dell doesn't push or block Windows updates. If there is a specific block in place for you device (do to some hardware, drivers, or software) it will come up when doing the Windows 11 assessment health check (https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp).

I have an XPS 13, not sure the exact model number. It popped up a few times but I ignored it. Didn't see it for a while recently .

I never got a notification or pop-up. The Heath-checker app says its all good, and Dell's website says my model is tested and compatible, I am running the latest windows 10 build. You are correct though, It sounds like its actually Microsoft that has full control over the update process, so I wonder why I am not getting it organically in windows update....

Possibly a filter thing blocking it from getting through by default...

Anyhow, upgrading with the update assistant is just like doing it through Windows updates so I wouldn't hesitate just because it's not in the Windows update.

It's in development and was rolled out to testers.

Another thing they removed is the ability to open a powershell from the menu bar. Very useful for IT or person managing scripts

I mean from the top menu bar not the context menu

In that menu you had the option to open powershell as admin.

im usually pretty good at googling, 90% of my computer savvy comes from there!

cant find a quick answer if this is even possible?

i need to rename a list of files in file explorer to different names. i dont mean i want make the same change for all of them, rather each file needs its own unique name. i have a spreadsheet of the current file names and the names i want them to become . whats the quickest way?
nothings impossible- the word itself says Im possible
