What’s behind this? Did the card issuers lose a lot of premium accounts because the benefits are mostly travel related? Did a lot of people recalibrate their lifestyle during lockdowns and decide the card isn’t worth it?

AMEX felt is was too travel focused, they want it to be more well rounded.

Uh oh. I have three of them, thanks to them being travel focused.
I hope we'll at least see useful benefits (like the PayPal offer, or even BestBuy offer), rather than streaming, shipping, or other stores where we need to think of what to buy so the credit doesn't get wasted...
