It’s a difficult/deep Maamar that even a seasoned Lubavitcher is best off studying with a Mashpia, a Chavrusa, or a group.

Enjoy your two week vacation @Yehuda57, please take the time off to explore your identity as a Lubavitcher and it’s role in creating a dwelling place for the Shechina here on earth.

It’s pretty obvious where to split this tangent off into a new topic, but I’m not sure that’s the right topic.

M218's conversion to Lubavitch is very much on topic.

What can I do my father is always preaching that I have to belong... When he says that I tell him no problem I will convert to Lubavitch!

Wonder how my Dad would react if I had thought as a teenager to threaten him with defection to Satmar :D

Vaad Ohr Vechom has nothing to do with beards and CY.

It's about providing content and inspiration to Anash. The goal is to get people involved before they get to the point of dropping CY and their beard.

I think the most effective inreach would be one that targets both demographics simultaneously. If you’re asking me, what we need most within Lubavitch (at least here on the farm) is community-building that goes beyond separate community shuls.

The paradigm shift that’ll drive otherwise-unacquainted Lubavitchers on the farm to say Good Shabbos to eachother when passing on the street, would be a real game changer.

My father stopped preaching to me once I was no longer a teenager. I was speaking for myself.

better??

You're missing the point. A Lubavitcher will learn it with you because they think it's important for you to know what it says. Kiruv isn't part of the equation.

Lol, this is always the funniest thing to me. The good Shabbos thing is entirely a NY thing, nothing to do with anything religious, elitism, or anything. I say Good Shabbos to people "on the farm" (unless they use the eruv, don't have a beard, or have a kapota that is higher than 2" above the knee, etc.) and get warm responses almost every time. If you go OOT where everyone is saying good Shabbos, there is no correlation to higher communal involvement, beard length, or anything of the sort.

I’d learn it with him because he wants to learn it, I’m not sure if it’s important or to what extent, to me it seemed relevant to a very specific comment he made, which in the grand scheme of things doesn’t seem significant at all.

I get dirty looks (“Do I know you from somewhere” looks) regardless of what end of the spectrum the other person is on. It could be a NY thing (though I’ve experience the opposite in many other NY-area communities, Chabad, mixed, and otherwise), but the we’re-all-in-it-together unity-oriented paradigm shift that would drive this change in behavior is something I feel Klal-Chabad would benefit from immensely.

The honor would be mine, but I should tell you upfront I’m pretty rusty, and I’m not taking any responsibility for my hashkafahs, beard, or CY status.

Bottom line, if we arrange for POTF ice cream bars will @Dan go back to the mainstream Lubavitch minyan?
