Thanks.

What about in remote locations where there's no cell service anyway? The hotspot will also have no service, right?

Correct, if there is no signal a hotspot will have no service. If there is a weak signal though, one can boost it -- buy an external antenna for the mobile hotspot (ie lookup "mimo 4g external antenna" on amazon).

Thanks again.

So, what would be the best hotspot for verizon?
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Jetpack MiFi 8800L 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot
I'd imagine their 5g router would be faster

Verizon has Inseego 2100 5G UW, but it's double the price, and it only gets mmwave and not c-band.  https://www.verizon.com/internet-devices/inseego-mifi-m2100-5g-uw-prepaid/

The Orbic supports both mmwave and c-band https://www.verizon.com/internet-devices/orbic-speed-5g-uw-prepaid/

mmWave is an entirely different flavor of 5G. That’s because mmWave connections use frequencies above 24GHz. These frequencies can’t travel very far or penetrate obstacles like walls, trees, buildings, low e-glass, etc.

Plus for 5G, you need to be very close to the tower, (1,500 feet away with no obstructions for mmwave), while 4G signal travels 10 miles.

I was referring to this
https://www.verizon.com/5g/home/

Without getting into a whole 5G discussion depending on the area, speeds can be significantly better.

Why does the orbic show that it's got 512MB? Where does that come into play?

RAM = 512MB, FLASH = 512MB

How it comes into play, the hotspot device has a micro Operating System on it with firmware which can be updated. Plus, the hotspot simcard can receive text and NMS messages which you can view via the web interface.

512MB --  Now, why it's for --  The hotspot stores text messages it receives on the sim card, which you can view via web interface. Plus, perhaps you can use it as a network drive.
