For medications we have child resistant caps. Guns are way more dangerous but we have no child resistant features. Does that seem logical?

Didn't read the whole thread, just commenting on this point.

Should a knife come with child safety?

A gun or knife that can cause pain instantaneously, it seems that the public is trusted to keep out of children's hands without additional safety features.

Versus medications which tend to be left around more may be liable to get into children's hands, thus the safety feature.

Most of you are to young to know/remember the Tylenol murders in 82. Major changes were made to packaging because of liability. What responsibility does the manufacture/seller have if any?

If your (anyone) response is going to be some DA comment about liberals save your time.

Make a poll of gun owners. Was the primary reason they bought their gun to kill another human.

@CountValentine You are a gun owner right? Was the primary reason you purchased your guns to kill people?

But it's not like a steel door where their defense isn't offensive and potentially mortal, the normal way to use a gun is to shoot and maim/kill, the same can't be said about cars.

The point that youíre making isnít relevant at all.
Why is it their problem if some people use it for evil purposes?
should a company that manufactures rat poison be responsible if someone uses it to kill people, just because itís purpose is to kill?

The typical use for Rat poison is used to kill rats, semi-automatic pistols aren't typically used that way (AFAIK).

The manufacturer has a responsibility to ensure that the customers recieve a product that is safe if used properly.

What percentage of guns in America are ever used to kill a person?

how is that relevant. What percent of the international nuclear weapon arsenal was ever used?

Does anyone have a copy of the lawsuit? I would not be surprised if they allege something more than the simple manufacturing of a deadly weapon. Is it possible that they claim there is a design defect that makes it more dangerous?

Because you are claiming that "the typical use" of pistols (with an added "semi-automatic" to make it sound scarier) is to kill people. That claim is untrue.

That is only a small part of their responsibilities.

Except most of you doubled down on that stupidity.

I never commented on if they should be sued or not. This idiotic car comparison is brought up all the time. I am calling it out for what it is.

Now should the manufacture or seller be held liable? You can't have an honest discussion when that crap is brought up.

Liability is a crazy issue. For medications we have child resistant caps. Guns are way more dangerous but we have no child resistant features. Does that seem logical?
I maybe wrong, but thereís a difference. Drug manufacturers have a big incentive for drugs to safe, as no one would buy medicine that mightíve been tampered with, so itís a purely financial decision. I donít think they care about anything but their bottom line. On the other hand gun manufacturers donít seem to have a problem with sales. So Iím not sure there is a comparison.

DOn't think this is clearly the case. Definitely some are primarily for killing invasive animals. I don't have any stats.

Should the manufacturer be held responsible if someone uses rodent poison to kill my pet hamster?

No, my arguments are to distinguish between vehicles/rat poison and guns, I donít necessarily think gun manufacturers should be held liable. What this country needs is sensible gun reform, nobody needs an assault rifle for self defense, or an arsenal. But thatís for a different thread.

Most likely donít get used, or get used at a range, often shooting at targets that mimic a human body. But when guns do intentionally discharge outside of practice, Iíd imagine that by and large the target is a human being.
