I think it is a great site with real news, but without any of the sensationalism and hype. The fact that you've never seen anything from them shared should probably be a factor in this conversation.

The alternative site I'm talking about has to be in the same league as the competition but just less well known.

From the looks of it, Hamodia isn't even trying to compete with the likes of YWN. It's not an interesting news source and they don't market it properly.
The site is set up terribly for reading - not in reverse-chronological format, small words, tiny pictures, and they don't post on social media. If there's a breaking news story I wouldn't expect video or great pics. What stories on Hamodia are share worthy? Just because it's not YWN doesn't mean it's an alternative worth switching to.

Okay, so look at Matzav vs. YWN. I have no idea what the numbers are, but I assume that YWN has more clicks because they are usually more sensational.

I know someone :)

I don’t mind news of accidents, but seeing the photo of friend’s car (plate not obscured) in a tweet describing one patient not responsive was pretty jarring. BH everything with him was fine but I didn’t need to find out that way.

Are you joking about Matzav? It's the Jewish National Enquirer, any headline or article you see there you can automatically assume that the literal opposite happened.

People don't love Matzav too much either, but probably better than YWN. While they're behind YWN in traffic they're miles ahead of Hamodia, but they are definitely missing the social aspect which greatly reduces their sharing impact.

So basically, a site won't survive without the "social aspect" - which goes hand-in-hand with sensationalism IMO. So the real challenge here is to balance sensationalism with responsible reporting.

Now we have to figure out where the line is, which perhaps is where the rating system can come in.

Disagree, doesn’t need to be sensationalist to benefit from posting on social platforms

I thought you were wrong, but I guess Kol Haolam and Baalaz are good examples of your point, though they occasionally let through a post that crosses the line. Pity neither of them have a functioning website yet.

Maybe but we are only comparing to YWN.

This would be like trying to convince a steakhouse to go vegan.
All these guys are in essence ambulance chasers. They simply mixed that with a website and built it up. They are quite literally the kids standing around the hatzolah and never grew out of it.

This is not an exaggeration.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I definitely do. The best business you can have is one that you're passionate about.

Off-topic but is this ever true whether owning your own business or working for someone? I do what I love but eventually your business grows and you end up doing things you really don’t love. I’m sure @Dan loves deals and credit cards but still considers much of it a job at this point. Endless research, rewriting posts, connecting with affiliates, etc. it’s never all fun and games.

There's quite a difference between a traffic report and the way their reports have been described above.
