Looking for a Ramp Builder
« on: July 15, 2021, 09:12:22 PM »
I need a ramp built from the sidewalk up to the first floor of a Brooklyn home.
I'm looking for someone with experience building ramps to advise and build one at my sister's home.
Our father is coming to live with her and will be stuck inside until one is built.

Did you consider buying one? There are ramps on Amazon.

Permanent or temporary ramp? Are you filing the job?

I think there was some recent discussion about building a ramp (maybe temporary though). Can't seem to find it right now though.

LOL.
I didn't remember asking DDF for help.

The conclusion there was that I need a professional.

Now we're ready for a safe ramp, that is permanent, if necessary.
And we're looking for someone who knows how long it needs to be and how to fit it in the available spot.  And to do the work.

You need to determine what type of ramp you're looking to install. You would use different vendors. If you are building concrete, I would recommend filing the job. The next question is , do you have the space? NYC its 1" in elevation to 12" in length.

I can give you a contact of a guy i previously rented an aluminum ramp from (I think he sells as well)

If you thinking wood pm me. I can give you a good framer and very decent prices. Although now adays you’ll probably be cheaper going with metal or concrete..

FYI (D)HCR has a program giving grants to homeowners and tenants for them to modify their home for accessibility. You may want to look into that . See link below

Can your father own the room in which he will be living?  Can you sell off part of the home to him or can he be added as an owner (and then take him off later)?  I have had CSRs in the past offer me advice, usually simple, on how to legally turn ineligibilities into approvals.  Maybe call and ask how it can be done since this will be his permanent residence.

Can you legally sell one room in a NYC home without rezoning/filling a a condo, or otherwise converting the status of the existing home? Somehow I doubt it.

Subletting the room and the relative filing for the grant as a tenant sounds much more realistic.

you can get really fancy... you can have a synthetic condo, I dont believe it gets filed on acris, yet possible to waive taxes on a nfp. Speak to re lawyer (good one) ...  ;D

Fascinating. I work a fair amount with ACRIS data and I never saw this, so I didn’t know it was possible. Good to know, thanks!
