Author Topic: Infinity SUV removes dvd drive, how to convert? (Read 2401 times)

My friend just got an infinity qx80.
His old one had a dvd player but new one only has hdmi port and USB port.
How is he supposed to play DVDs for kids?

Convert dvd to usb flash drive? Use a laptop or portable player with an hdmi plug to car?

Any recommended programs to convert dvd to USB ?

Double check that it can play videos from a USB, if it does then you can copy a few video files on a USB and play from it.
As for converting (ripping) DVDs to MP4, google around I'm not sure the best software.

why not use the HDMI port?

i guess that will work, it just requires plugging in a dvd player and keeping it under the seat etc..
there is an ac power plug in the same console, it just gets messy..

Not to mention a waste of time energy and space of it's able to play form a USB.

manual seems to say it will work for mp4..
anyone know good software to use?

thanks, i actually just read tomshardware and he recommends make MKV for ripping and Handbrake for transcoding..

"In addition to a disc drive, you will need a program to rip the files off of your discs, and a program to transcode the files after the fact. There are tons of programs out there for ripping and transcoding files; we recommend MakeMKV for ripping and Handbrake for transcoding—both of these programs are free, open source software and available for both Mac and PC."

is MakeMKV needed? how did you rip from disk to computer?

I used only Handbrake and nothing else.

It can rip all DVDs, even copy protected. google it

Agree, though personally I find it a bit messy and complicated. I like some of the simpler ones like WinXdvd, freemake, and similar, though sometimes you gotta pay for them... (vlc can do it too, if you know how...)

Handbrake is awesome - it has been around forever, though inhaven’t used it in ages. It’s extremely powerful and allows you to rip basically anything into any quality/format/size

I don't know if this would work for ripping DVDs, but for basic video conversions, or for video-to-audio conversions, I find Any Video Converter (AVC) to be really easy to use and very versatile.

They were bought DVDs that we ripped to view on a Kindle
