Motzei Shabbos Nachamu playlist
« on: July 24, 2021, 10:30:40 PM »
There are many beautiful songs of Nechomah that have been recorded over the years, but we often forget them from year to year. I decided to list a few of my favorite that come to mind, so that others like myself - who are not at a music event tonight - can have a playlist of nice songs that focus on the Bais Hamikdash and Shabbos Nachamu.

I'm sure I'm just scraping the edge. Please add if you have something I missed that you'd like to share.

Ki Nicham Hashem Tzion - Moshe Goldman - Camp Shalva Volume 1

Vatomer Tzion - Yosef Chaim Bloch - Neginasi

Nachamu - Moshe Mendlowitz/Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz - Shir 3

Veshavti El Tzion - Shloime Taussig - Taussig 2

Nachamu - Shlomo Carlebach - Nachamu Ami

MBD songs:
Nachamu - Nachamu Ami

Ki Elokim Yoshiah Tzion - Kulom Ahuvim

Al Kein Tzion - MBD with Shira

Oid Yeishvu - The Double Album

Nachamu - Nachamu Ami

This "album"/EP never happened. We've officially scratched it from our collective memory; you didn't get the memo?

The ones that really speak to me are Tzlil vzemer:
Nachamu, Ki Nicham, Vehaya Boeis, Kol Beramah, Heenei Onochi, Uvou, The Little Bird, Lo Yisa Goy

The theme of those songs revolves around geulah, though I'm not sure they are all narrowly defined as songs/lyrics of consolation.

They just don't make Jewish music like that anymore :D

The two instrumental Classic (vol 1 and 2) albums are something else!

Upon the suggestion of another DDFer (via PM), this discussion of a playlist of Nachamu songs should be in it's own thread, and it will be more accessible in the future. Do you agree? @AsherO Would you move it?

Wow, thanks for BUMPing! I completely forgot about this thread, and it's being very helpful now.

Pity though that I linked a site that is no longer operational...

BUMP.

I don't like 'jumping' back into full scale music today. I feel like I can really appreciate these songs today, when the poignant feelings of Tisha B'av are still tangible, but now music is permitted.

I thought I remember such a thread, and I B"H just found it. There is one song I wanted to add. It slipped under my radar when it came out, but I think it's a real masterpiece, bursting with so much emotion, and the words are so profound.

This song is especially poignant this year.

The song comes from Yitzy Bald's first NYBC album. The lyrics are from a Kinnah we say near the end of Kinnos, "צִיּוֹן, הֲלֹא תִשְׁאֲלִי לִשְׁלוֹם אֲסִירַיִךְ" - Tzion, how is it that you don't ask about the welfare of your captives?!

This song starts with words from the middle of the kinnah: "וְעֵת אֶחֱלֹם שִׁיבַת שְׁבוּתֵך" - and when I dream, I dream of the return of your captives. What a stirring Kinnah for this year.

The background of this kinnah is also really somber. As I saw in the Artscroll Kinnos, this Kinnah was written by Rav Yehuda Halevi, the Kuzari. He yearned his whole life for Yerushalayim - he penned the words "Libi Bamizrach Va'anochi Besof Maariv." Finally, he undertook the journey to the Holy Land. As he passed Damascus, he stood facing Yerushalayim and he composed the above Kinnah. When he finally reached the Holy Land, he knelt down to kiss the ground, and he was trampled to death by an Arab horseman.
