I wonder if people realize just how dangerous what she's doing is. She does things that have never been attempted before. If she is off by a fraction of a second she could snap her neck and die. She tried to perform, her mind was off, she couldn't focus properly. Backing out wasn't cowardly, she could have been saving her own life.
As for quitting on the team, let me give you another example. Who is a better team player, Arod or Jeter? Jeter, right? He is The Captain™! When Arod was traded to the Yankees, who was the better shortstop? Who would have given the Yankees a better shot to win the game with their shortstop play? Without question, it was Arod. Yet Arod never for a moment even dreamed of moving Jeter, and Jeter never for a second contemplated giving up his spot.
