Now that we know that vaccinated people can also infect others, has the goal switched from “don’t kill others” to “save yourself” ?
Each person has to make his own effort.
Anyone at risk, or concerned about getting covid, can get the vaccine.

The onus is on each individual to make his own risk assessment.

My point was if it’s about saving yourself then they should make employers ban cigarettes & sugary drinks too. No place should be allowed to serve junk food & soda. Hospitals are overflowing with these diseases.

Which is incredibly ironic, considering that the "establishment" has spent the past 18 months scaring the ********** out of everyone about Covid, so you see individuals walking or biking alone outdoors with a mask.

Put it all together: isn't obesity one of the greatest risk factors for Covid? How about all the obese people with masks lose some weight and lose the mask with it!

Don't be silly, thank you.

You know that FUD means something else. And it's not something to be made light of, considering the amount of needless deaths caused by FUD. The blood is on their hands.

If the vaccine is primarily for personal protection but largely ineffective against transmission (which is the direction Delta is nudging us) then the government has little right to force people to take it.

However, someone needs to do a better job of combatting FUD and the government does have a compelling interest when hospitals begin to reach the point of being overwhelmed.

For news in science and medicine, I consider the New York Times to have the most reliable reporters.
My condolences :)
@TimT I'm willing to consider alternatives.  Is there a source that you find more trustworthy for news in science and medicine?

What does "ineffective against transmission" mean? If the vaccine prevents you from getting infected 80-90% of the time, it is *at least* reducing transmission by the same amount, no?

Sounds like you don't understand what vaccines do. They do not create a shield around you preventing a virus from entering. They teach your body how to fight it. That means the virus actually enters your body and is then destroyed by your immune system. In the interim there can be enough to cause a positive tes.

That positive test *is* the percent that is "ineffective". That's why even the 5-20% of vaccinated who get covid will most likely not have bad symptoms.

It appears to be far less effective than that at reducing infection form the Delta variant but yes it definitely reduces infection (and thus likely transmission) to an extent.

Louisiana hospitals are already overwhelmed and Florida hospitals aren’t far behind.

Also, using the term ‘government’ is just an attempt to create a bogeyman. The fundamental question is if the collective can dictate to the individual. The government is merely a vessel - nobody disputes vaccine mandates and the like represent the will of the majority of people.

There is growing evidence the vaccine is much more effective at preventing transmission than infection.  So even if you get it, you’re much less likely to infect others.
even the 5-20% of vaccinated who get covid
It’s not 5-40% of vaccinated that get covid, it’s 5-40% of vaccinated who would otherwise get infected that get covid.

I just want to see when all restaurants in Manhattan are turning away black people (30% vaccination rate) and only allowing in whites and asians (50-70% vaccination rate)

Where's the data to back that up?
Approximately 50% of the US is vaccinated. 100% of adults have had the option to be vaccinated. Why do you assume the majority would be pro-vaccine mandates?
