What is a "like" and how should it be used?
« on: August 03, 2021, 04:05:33 PM »
What is a like?

  • There's a little blue button on the bottom of every post (that's not your own) that says "like". (this is on the website, not on tapa)
  • When someone gets a "like" it shows up in their profile and in "Likes Notifications".
  • Because "likes" show up in the users profile, it is often appreciated more than a thanks or lol that is quickly forgotten.

How should likes be used?

Likes are a way of showing appreciation for someone's post. There are many types of appreciation:
  • Thank you for finding that deal. I used the deal that you posted.
  • Thank you for the information. It was helpful to me.
  • I appreciate your humor/wit. That was funny.
  • I appreciate your position. I think you are right.
  • I appreciate your writing and/or research. I'm impressed.
  • I appreciate doing a deal with you. it was a successful deal.
  • I appreciate your pain/what you're going/went through. I empathize with you.
  • I appreciate that you had a Simcha/good time. I'm happy for you.
ETA: 9. I appreciate your response. I noticed.

I find that once in a while I Like a post if someone replied to a post of mine and I want them to know that I read their reply and just don't have anything more to add, even if there's nothing particularly like-worthy about their post. It just avoids a useless "I hear" or "Ok" post.

Does anyone else here do that? Does it make sense?

In truth @YitzyS is not the only one relying on likes to feed his kids

Thank you @TimT for granting Like #1000

I can now feed my kids and guests on Shabbos.

Why thank you. My kids are going to have such a good meal tonight!

Government food boxes have devalued likes.

Either way, part of financial literacy is understanding that people need likes to feed their kids.

Where are the likes? My kids are hungry.

ETA:
Don't LOL my post! I can't feed my kids with LOL's or +1's. Press the 'Like' button!
Thanks @Yehuda57

Yes. But discrimination is allowed here on DDF, so I am the brunt of all the jokes.  >:(
