Keep in mind that as close as the governor race was in 2018, FL hasn't elected a new D governor since 1990. And as far as margin of victory for a statewide election, compare to Rubio. He was elected in 2010 with 49%, re-elected in 2016 with 52%, and now is gonna finish at around 58% this year. Combine that with overall performance in the house and it seems accurate to say FL is shifting more red. Of course you can argue whether DeSantis is the cause of that shift, or just a recipient.

Even if true. How much would it hurt him in a general? There is an insane amount of bleeding red MAGA republicans that will do whatever Trump tells them to. If he runs against Trump and beats him, and then Trump won't endorse him for the general, he's toast...

It's a good question. The Rs desperately need to get rid of Trump. Impeachment would have done the trick, but they chose to stick with him. Now they're going to keep dying with him.

Those people are starting to turn against Trump. I'm not so sure that enough of them will be left in two years to make much of a difference.

I definitely see the logic of waiting 6 more years for DeSantis.

Ask Chris Christie how waiting for the right time works out. In 2012 he would have had a good chance to win the primary. In 2016 all he got was standing awkwardly behind Trump.

Yes! His numbers were closer to Desantis's in Miami Dade than they were state-wide.

that means 11,000,000 more people voted for him after he already was president for 4 years.
Trump totally revived the deadbeat republican party and gave it some life. He taught them to fight back for what they believe in and for their rights. Not to take the democrat's garbage anymore.
While I'll agree with you that he should not run again, its not because he's a "poison pill" for the party but because he's succeeded beyond everyone's dreams and is now being copied by many others.

i don't see why not. Trump is his worst enemy. He kept hurting himself over and over. On the other hand, his ideas are new and amazing. He brought new life into the party and now everyone is copying his style.
