If he had no prior infection and no vaccine, he was likely in the more vulnerable bracket of society. He made a bad choice by not getting vaccinated.

Many, like myself, believe the vax has its place. Just not a mandate.

Previous infection and children are the biggest point of contention.

This is a portion of the population that is least vulnerable to serious illness without a vax.

The same for giving boosters to people who have high antibodies. Makes no sense and gives fuel to conspiracy theories of Big Pharma / Bill Gates / New World Order / or whatever flavor of conspiracy you like.

When you shut valid questions with a mandate, it just makes people less likely to trust the vaccine.

That is what likely caused this guy not to get the vaccine.

Maybe if they offered him $10k to take it, instead of offering  money to illegal immigrants, he would’ve taken it and would be alive today.

I have no problem with the position there should not be a mandate. I just disagree with it.
What is going to be the argument if they require kids to be vaccinated before school next year?

How is it about politics? If common sense is politics then I guess we can agree that it’s about politics.

I think that you are going to see a bigger fight coming when they mandate it for kids. You are going to see greater pushback from parents. Even the media has been reporting that there is a high percentage of parents that don’t want to give it to kids.

I think it is less about politics and more about what one believes the vaccine can achieve.

You seem to think that a mandate will eventually provide full eradication of the virus. That would seem to be the reason to be pro mandate. That seems to have been disproven by the fact there have been variants and the vaccinated continue to get it.

I believe that we will never get to full eradication. Vaccinating the vulnerable and allowing the less vulnerable to deal with it naturally can make it become more like the flu - hopefully.

The vaccine is a powerful drug. I have a close relative - teenager - who took it just to get into school. Had a severe reaction to it, of which the doctors could not figure out how to deal with it.

It’s not for everyone. Let those who need it or want it get it. Like the flu shot.

I have no idea if it will eradicate virus. I feel strongly that it does saves lives. The rewards outweighs the risk IMHO.
The major problem is by not being vaccinated you are putting others at risk just not yourself. Where is the middle ground?

There will be major push back if they require it for kids. The problem is we already have vaccine mandates for kids. What will be their argument? That it isn't safe?

Mandates for kids have generally been for the benefit of kids. The kids were the demographic of greatest risk.

Why isn’t there a flu vaccine mandate? Grandma is at a greater risk of serious illness from the flu than junior.

We don’t mandate junior to get the flu shot each year to save grandma.

Grandma’s doctor likely advises her to get the flu shot each year.

Junior's parents may decide to give it to protect the child from the illness. Even though he is likely not to get severely ill. That is their choice.

When a mandate is not about protecting the very ones who are taking it, something is wrong. Especially, when we are up to boosters in adults.
