If he had no prior infection and no vaccine, he was likely in the more vulnerable bracket of society. He made a bad choice by not getting vaccinated.
Many, like myself, believe the vax has its place. Just not a mandate.
Previous infection and children are the biggest point of contention.
This is a portion of the population that is least vulnerable to serious illness without a vax.
The same for giving boosters to people who have high antibodies. Makes no sense and gives fuel to conspiracy theories of Big Pharma / Bill Gates / New World Order / or whatever flavor of conspiracy you like.
When you shut valid questions with a mandate, it just makes people less likely to trust the vaccine.
That is what likely caused this guy not to get the vaccine.
Maybe if they offered him $10k to take it, instead of offering money to illegal immigrants, he would’ve taken it and would be alive today.
