Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed legislation that makes it illegal to protest outside of private homes in Florida.
it's good to be a Lubavitcher
#freespeech
IANAL, but I think it would pass constitutional muster. Time, manner, and place restrictions on speech are allowed.
IANAL either, and my comment wasn't about the legalities, but rather the hypocrisy. I love DeSantis as much as the next guy, but he's clearly going after the hot takes of the day, and as someone who supposedly champions free speech as much as he does, he's being awfully broad on banning speech based on a specific concern in DC right now.
It doesn't seem unreasonable to me, I think it's reasonable to allow people to live in peace even if you don't agree with them. You're more than welcome to protest, but allow them to live in peace.
DeSantis made mention of the Supreme Court protests when he signed it into law this week
banning speech based on a specific concern in DC right now.
AP dead or Obi dead?
"Sending unruly mobs to private residences, like we have seen with the angry crowds in front of the homes of Supreme Court justices, is inappropriate,” DeSantis said in an email to news outlets.
Does the law just ban “unruly mob” speech in front of private residences, or is it more broad Seems like he’s pro free speech. When the speech agrees with him.
Fair enough. Though I still think you guys are under playing the politics behind the timing and accompanying rhetoric
given the timing.
Law was passed months ago. Next...
You seem to have missed this -
When was it signed into law? And, again, does it only ban unruly mobs?
And, again, does it only ban unruly mobs?
It is unlawful for a person to picket or protest before or about the dwelling of any person with the intent to harass or disturb that person in his or her dwelling.
