I don't think anyone would say (seriously) the MV flight was not a stunt. I think he proved his point more than adequately. People are all hot and bothered about the inhumane nature of it, calling it "trafficking" and the like, when the conditions for immigrants are far more inhumane and far worse flights/bus rides have been going on for ages in far greater numbers and worse conditions. These immigrants arrived in a beautiful place and were *very* quickly removed from MV to a military base, while border towns are getting no such fast relief.

I'm far more "liberal" on immigration than the general consensus on the right is, but it has to be done with a seder and a policy, not just an open border with no real policies being enacted to control the situation.

The federal government needs to step up and help these border states. Stop playing politics with human lives. Stop demonizing these people who the overwhelming amount want a better life for their families. Stop demonizing the border states and help with the problem.

Yet most American Jews, whose ancestors arrived here in the decades before the Yevsektsiya, have benefited from an open border.  Many immigrants were "wanted men", fleeing military conscription, yet they quickly passed Immigration and were simply advised to walk towards the Lower East Side.

I always think back on that when I see photos of today's migrants trying to make their way here.

All these cities should send their criminals out on bond to FL. Of course, make sure you promise them housing, money and a job.

Open border is likely meaning different things to us. European immigrants came through an open border in that they were allowed in, not that they walked through without being processed. I'm saying allow the people in, but in an organized humane way. For example, if someone presents as a refugee looking for asylum, they should be allowed in. That is a vital humanitarian role for the US to play. But they should do that at a border crossing point, not when they're picked up in middle of nowhere Texas, which causes them to be smuggled in under life-threatening conditions and circumstances.

President Bush almost got immigration reform passed. Unfortunately, the Republicans killed it then.

I don't know about that but we could have avoided a lot of the extremism and the baiting on the left and the right.

(Yes, I got the reference. Just because some staffer put that sign up doesn't mean that's the only thing you should remember about him. Btw, I do believe that it was right, the war with Iraq was over, it was Iran who started training terrorists and supplying them with IEDs. So it was the start of a new war with Iran.)
