No name calling. No put downs. No "you always..."


You're allowed to talk loud at each other. 
You're not allowed to put the other one down. Or make them feel low.


You tell them what they did that you object to and why.  Again, it can be said loudly, if necessary.

My dad smoke like a chimney. He died from cancer with the cause of the cancer believed to be smoking. Not one of his six children smoked (pot excluded).

At what point does a raised voice become a yell? Is it volume, a length of time, or is it something else, like intent?

Quite a few people are currently aware of my naturally loud volume. I've received compliments from quite a few telling me how they enjoy being able to clearly hear where davening is up to when I'm the one driving.

My naturally loud volume (with clear projection) can sometimes be misinterpreted as a raised voice, when that is not my intent in any way shape or form.

Well you have a point it can probably go in both extremes, but I presume if someone grew up in a "yelling home", their more likely to be yellers as well. It's a subconscious automatic reaction. It's different than smoking.

This is like the most subjective poll ever. Couples have different ways of communicating: yelling can range from emotional/verbal abuse all the way to expressive and emotive communication.

Abuse can be manifested with low tones, and loving relationships can be expressed in loud, cathartic tones.
