You need something as a yardstick. The whole country needs to be saved. We already failed at that by pulling out.

You want this magical process that doesn't exist. We all agree the way it was done is a failure. The point I and others have been making is it doesn't matter as the end result will be the same.

ETA - Here are the WH numbers: It's unclear how many individuals can be evacuated in just two weeks. More than 11,000 American citizens are in Afghanistan, according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. And at least 30,000 Afghan nationals who aided the U.S. effort over the last two decades are desperate to flee the country.
for starters, do all those that *we've already given these visas to* have a safe way out?

I don't know.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I don't know.
so how about an orderly enough drawdown to allow safe exit for all visa holders

We are past that stage. Look I am all for keeping our promises. Hopefully we can get many out.

you, like joe, keep deflecting that the issue was whether we stay forever, to distract from the current mess.
whenever someone points out that, regardless of the fact of leaving, we should have done it normally instead of abandoning allies, you ask where to draw the line.
here's your signline

and we failed it

What are you talking about. I didn't deflect anything. This is on Biden and no one else. I have said this a hundred times.
His withdraw plan was a failure. I am sure he believed the collapse would take sometime and he was wrong.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country with four vehicles and a helicopter full of cash, the Russian embassy in Kabul said Monday.

The embattled leader left the presidential palace in Kabul on Sunday to the insurgent Taliban fighters who had toppled his government. “To avoid bloodshed, I thought it would be better to leave,” Ghani, 72, said on Facebook in his first comments after his departure.

The former World Bank academic — who holds a doctorate from New York City’s Columbia University — didn’t say where he was going, but Al Jazeera reported later that he had flown to Uzbekistan.

So now you care about these people?
I don't know how much more I can take of this.  :)
I have no idea what you're saying or why you keep attacking me personally. It's like you have a vendetta against me.

Oh so lets take in hundreds of thousands of Afgans because they translated something for our troops, we're doing such a great job at the Mexican border, what's another 100,000 Afgans refugees

My opinion will be unpopular but I wouldn't take in any of them. Not one.

No one forced them to work for the Americans, they were good paying jobs & they knew the risks they were getting into.

If they were so frightening of a Taliban takeover then they should've fought harder against them.
Aside from the fact that we promised to protect them and we're just leaving them for dead, everyone they know will want to join the fight against the evil americans who used them and left them for the lions. Additionally, in the future if we ever need civilian assistance it will be incredibly difficult to gain anyones trust.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Would the result have been different, no.
His withdraw plan was a failure.
Change of heart? If the plan is a failure, then the result could have been different.

I don't know.
"However, as of Tuesday afternoon many thousands of Afghans who had been employed by Western embassies and nongovernment organizations in Kabul remained stranded and unable to reach Hamid Karzai International Airport for evacuation flights as the Taliban erected checkpoints at airport entrances, whipping and beating Afghans who attempted to cross."

Embarrassing for this country.

No change of heart. Of course the short term results could have been different. They (Taliban) could have stormed the embassy and airfield killing thousands. Maybe it would have worked exactly as you laid out. Maybe they have a plan (agreement) to get everyone out still. All I know the end result will be the same with the Taliban in total control of the country.
