At the point that the embassy was told to start destroying sensitive material and preparing for retreat was the time to tell the Taliban to stand down and wait until we're ready for them to take over.
You realize that's exactly what we did.

We told the Taliban that we will be ready by May 1st of 2021.

So what exactly are you saying? We should have overstayed our deadline? For how much longer, indefinitely? We've already extended it once.

Not sure what your question is. We should have stayed however long was needed for it to be done safely. If that means another year then it means another year. That doesn't mean indefinitely and that is a straw man. WHat difference does it make that it was already extended once?

You just can't keep extending the deadline and expect no response from the other side.

Exactly.

I know some say that this is strawman's argument, because the options are not leave or stay indefinitely, but in practical terms I don't think there's another option here.

If we would've extended our overstay at our discretion, the Taliban would most likely retaliate and in midst of ongoing conflict it is kinda never a good time to retreat.

Let me ask you this, how much time do you think we needed for it to be done safely, 18 months, 24 months, 36 months?

I'm asking because most of those criticizing Biden think that we should have taken more time to do it right.

So the question how much more is enough?

Why is there a timeline? You finish the job and leave.
The Taliban need money and recognition. We can get people out now and dangle that. Or we can play a hostage game after we leave people there.

We given them a timeline. Then we extended the timeline. How many more times you think we could do that without a response?

Maybe the dummies should stop giving artificial deadlines?
And stop giving over lists of hostages to take?

At this point Biden's deadline is not artificial.
Someone was taken hostage from the list they gave them? Did any on the list get evacuated?

Someone was taken hostage from the list they gave them?
Not yet, but it's all but guaranteed to happen. How could anybody think otherwise?

Doha was signed in February of 2020. Why were all these people that needed to be evacuated even there when Biden took office. If the last admin wanted them out (they didn't IMHO) why didn't they evacuate them? All but many 1-2k were essential so what happened?

They want us out. They want their money we're holding hostage. They have every reason to help us now.
But what about once we're gone?

These backward barbarians outlasted the two most powerful militaries in the world.

Number of US casualties in the past couple of years -
2021 - 13
2020 - 11
2019 - 21
2018 - 14
2017 - 14
2016 - 9
2015 - 22

Every death is a tragedy, but the idea that the Taliban was winning is just plain wrong.
