I have no answer. But what makes you say it started last year and not earlier? There have been many points that lead up to this. Starting from 1980 through 2002 and later. Policies that might have not been properly thought through, acting mostly in reaction to events and occurrences rather than a well thought through strategy (dealing with militant Islam, or more broadly - fighting ideologies with guns).
We can debate policy until the cows come home. Can both agree this is a massive disgrace for our country?

Apparently the Biden administration went along on vacation with the afghans
"we left afghans behind? It is the summer now we can always buy new ones for the winter"

One massive disgrace for our country. It started last year when we turned our back on the Afghan people and ends with us turning our back on the Afghan people. All those that want the pull out an end to the war, you got it.  NOW WHAT?
What do you mean by turning our back? We can't stay there forever, we left the Afghan army at 300k soldiers which is about 3 times the Taliban army, we equipped the Afghan army with billions of dollars worth of equipment. The afghans turned their back on themselves. You cant force them to fight, (you can bring the horse to the water but you can't make him drink) what else should we have done?

The bad thing is that the deep state has been lying to the American people for 20 years that we're winning the war, that we spent over 2 trillion dollars besides interest and have nothing to show for it.
The really bad is that biden couldn't get all the Americans out before the Taliban took over and that the IC really messed.

What happens when the next 911 happens? Do we go back?

Maybe if the IC wasnt targeting grandmas for entering the capital but focusing on terrorism.
And we shouldn't hire the dregs of society for tsa and 9/11 wont happen again

Pretty short sited thinking the next 911 will involve TSA. What if it is the water supply, airborne virus or a thousand other possibilities?

It is an absolute disgrace... Why couldn't they have an orderly withdrawal? Why do we leave weapons for the Taliban? Why don't we evacuate people who worked with us?

And staying in Afghanistan is going to stop it? There are plenty of other countries that have terrorists or try to harm America, we haven't invaded those countries

Most people round here & to be fair most of the world don't begin to grasp what went on in Afghanistan.

Blaming Biden or Trump is just trying to score cheap political points (which is the norm in these times).

If you really want to blame a politician then blame Bush/Cheney & warmonger Rumsfeld, who started the mess in Afghanistan & iraq, they had this rediculous notion of teaching democracy to the Arabs.

But the real blame here lays with the afgans themselves, it wouldn't have made a darn bit of difference when the Americans left, or how fast they left. The minute the last Americans left the country would've collapsed be it 2021, 2031 or 2041. And the reason is CORRUPTION.

Afgans have been given every opportunity to succeed as a country, the world has poured trillions of dollars trying to help them but they've continuesly squandered it, the police hadn't been paid in months, soldiers have great weaponry from the Americans but no bullets to shoot with & on & on.

In addition the Americans never understood who they were dealing with, Afganistan isn't so much a country, rather a bunch of warring backward tribes sharing land and we never began to understand that.

End rant.

Iran is a far greater concern to commit these attacks than the backward Taliban.

100%

Calling it a disgrace is an understatement. I also think it's akin to spitting on the graves of our brave men (and women?) that lost lives there.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

That came to mind when I went to brothers party this afternoon. Pulling up I seen his Purple Heart license plates on his car.

Pentagon confirms the Department of Defense is preparing to house thousands of Afghan refugees on American military installations, including Fort McCoy in Wisconsin and Fort Bliss in Texas.

All day I have been thinking about the families that their lives have changed forever due to fighting in Afghanistan. From the dead, to the injured.  I hope these families understand that the cause was still there at the time, regardless of the current outcome. Very sad. :-[
