We're hunkered down in a corner with our tails between our legs trying to get whoever we can out before the Taliban's deadline. Our soldiers are doing brave and honorable work, but our position is not one to take pride in.

For someone who disliked Trump as much as you did, you've got his name-calling thing down pretty tight. You have an issue with Shapiro, keep the cute nicknames out of it and take apart his opinions and blustery prose on their merits (or lack thereof).

Biden said we would be out by 8/31 not the Taliban. It was Biden who moved the deadline to 8/31 and the Taliban had no say in the matter. You should get your facts right.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, told reporters Monday after a briefing on Afghanistan it is "very unlikely" the evacuation can be completed in the next week, given the number of Americans and Afghans who still need to leave.

Strong leadership would have said, "We will be there as long as it takes to ensure we get every person out safely." Biden said, "We'll be out by Aug 31." He gets the same briefings Schiff gets. He's just not willing to challenge the Taliban's demand that all foreign forces be out by the original self-imposed and unattainable deadline of the 31st.

The Taliban has appointed a former Guantanamo detainee as acting defense minister following the Islamic fundamentalist group’s takeover of Afghanistan, according to a new report.

Mullah Abdul Qayyum Zakir has been chosen to assume the role, the Qatari-based Al Jazeera news channel reported on Tuesday, citing a source in the Islamist movement.

Zakir, also known as Abdullah Gulam Rasoul, was captured by US forces after 9/11 and incarcerated at the detention center in Cuba. He was transferred back to Afghanistan in 2007 and shortly afterward released.
