AA 145 TLV-JFK delayed 17.5 hours

AA145 departing 08/16 was supposed to depart 12:50 am, it started taxiing, and then returned to gate to refuel for some reason. Then it was too late to take off.Delayed first to 2 am, then 10:10 am, then 3:00 pm, and then finally 6:30 pm tom aftn.

They claimed it was an issue with ATC causing the delay. They gave hotel vouchers and told to keep receipts of cab to and from hotel.

How can I know the real reason of the delay, and if the pax would be covered by Israeli law for a delay over 8 hours?

I don't know how you find the real reason, but why not put in a claim and see what they respond. The pilot must have said refuel, that's how you knew that. So note that in your claim.

Refuel sounds like an equipment problem, why didn't they fill up properly the first time ? Then it snowballed due to crew rest.

I wasn't on the flight. but I think the refueling only happened after waiting for 2 hours on the runway. I don't know the reason for that 2 hour wait.

I see, Why do you think its anything other than ATC, it certainly doesn't seem to be the airlines fault.

But your question is where can you see the official reason for that delay.

You can try,  I've done a few of these, and I don't think it's too promising if they pulled to the runway and then came back after two hours.

United and Delta have specific pages for Israeli aviation law, I couldn't find it on AA.
