The winds/ fallen trees was worse then, as well as the areas in the coastal flood zones from the rising sea water (Brooklyn navy yard for instance was under water). Now it's the avalanche of rain which overwhelms the drains so there is standing water and backups all over. This is causing major damage.

I don’t remember Sandy being heavy rainfall, more flooding/wind at the coast.
