Reminds me of an opposite story with r' pinye korf a"h (a chossid in every aspect of the word) when he was asked by a judge of he's a chossid. His humble response was "I try"...
If someone says on himself that he's a chossid it would make others really doubt it.
And this is the difference between Chabad and Chagas chassidus.

The real shidduch question is if a Lubavitcher is mekadesh an isha אל מנת שאני חסיד. We all know that he isn't really one, but according to him, he is. Is the kiddushin tofes or not?

Same question for על מנת שאני יהודי. It's only a question for Lubavitchers being that Chabad is "the closest religion to Judaism". Everyone else is definitely too far off for it to be chal.

If someone says on himself that he's a chossid it would make others really doubt it.

From my "kitzur shulcan aruch" of what it means to be a Lubavitcher:

So if a חסיד by definition knows what he's lacking, once he's not lacking, is he a חסיד?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Chagas chassidus.
New one for me. Asking the definition belongs in the Lubavitcher or non Lubavitcher thread?

Eta. Oh, חסד גבורה תפארת. In what context is this being used?

I get how Lubavitch gets to Chabad. How does the connection to a tzaddik, singing, sherayim, etc translate to Chesed, Gevura, Tiferes?

Chabad=Intellect
Chagas=Emotions

That's what he said. But not sure why those are not just attributes to choose how to act, think, etc. at a given time and situation and not a whole way of life, as he seems to be classifying it as.

CMIIW but my understanding is that the “chasidesha havurah” doesn’t really have to do with chassidim v misnagdim but was the minhag in different geographical locations to have different ways of pronouncing things.

So why was it adapted by virtually all chassidim (besides Chabad, are there others?)? And are there non chassidim who still have that havarah? (Hungarians?)

Gur uses that havara?

There are definitely Hungarians who do.

That's correct. Stoliners have it somewhere in between as they were a Lithuanian chassidus.

Gur uses that havara?

Sure. As Polishers they have it even worse with some words.

Just found this thread.

I'm here, waiting for some stimulating questions.

I believe I see lately more Litvaks wearing gartels than in the past, also more Litvaks going in Mikvah. I notice this in the summer here in the Catskills. Is it indeed the case? What's the reason for it? I've also heard R Eli Stefanski saying he goes in mikvah because nowadays even Litvaks are going in mikvah daily.

Not in my bubble.

There are many "litvaks" who have a somewhat heimish background and may wear a gartel bec its their "minhag". My BILs are sort of like that, some wear and some don't.

Going every day to the mikva for a litvak? Sounds like a severe identity crisis. Tvilas ezra perhaps.

Obviously those with a chassidish background, a hardcore Litvak for generations won't wear one.

How about Erev Shabbos?

Chassidim (and others) are known to wear a double head covering during Davening. In a litvishe Shul in Flatbush, there's this guy that puts on a hat for Davening, but he slips off his Yarmulka as he puts on the hat..
Is this a thing? To davka not have two coverings?!
