Even for a complete novice like myself?
If you are really a complete novice maybe you should start by reading a book. Just to get the basic concepts..

Very true. Check out the computer section in your local public library - some of these books are very helpful. You can read them slowly over time and apply what you find helpful.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Thought so. Davka has some options that are more commonly found in seforim which word does not have such as a centered bottom line of paragraphs. Word is somewhat more powerful and has more general features as well as being more compatible for other computers and users. It is also more useful for English.

I need to create a goal chart, like this one here: http://www.exceldashboardtemplates.com/how-to-make-a-beer-mug-goal-chart-as-an-excel-dashboard-component/

does anyone know of an easier way to make it than the link I posted? or maybe someone else who explains it differently?

You can also do that in word. Any other advantages?

Not sure if this is the right place to post:

I need to buy word for three laptops.
They offer me a yearly price of $100 for 5 laptops and 5 tablets.

Any other suggestions besides for buying it for each laptop?

Keep in mind that the version they quoted for is Office 365, not 2013.

Is the main difference outlook and access?
For basic home pcs why would i want office 2013 over office 365?
Is there a cheaper way to get this for laptops with windows 8
My old office 2003 disk wont install

FWIU, the main difference is that Office 365 is in the cloud, whereas Office 2013 is installed on your computer.
Office 365 comes out considerably cheaper if you have more than 1 computer.

there's a very basic business subscription which basically gives you only web based services.
The rest should include a full downloadable version of Office
