I feel really bad for Murphy - he worked so hard and he was up 11 points in the race, but he's sure to lose in a landslide because Lehovin just endorsed Ciatterelli

Re Lakewood. The anti-VAAD sentiment shouldn’t play such a role. While you may not agree with up to 50% of their actions, many or most of their connections and accomplishments are beneficial for you and you neighbors.

So YOU benefited from Murphy whether you like him or the VAAD or Agudah. The question then comes around to Hakaras Hatov (leshem shamayim and leshem good politics) vs. a Republican future.

Make a decision. And definitely vote.

If the other guy is better aligned with your views and wont enact draconian mandates, your not going to vote for this guy bc of "hakaras hatov" to the incumbent?

I never heard of hakaras hatov when it comes to voting.

Concept is simple. Its like a credit score, shows you’ll pay back in the future. Its always risky to endorse in a close race. But if the basis is payback for past favors then it is still likely that if the non-endorsed candidate wins he will understand and be willing to let it go and hope he gets the same.

This is not just leshem shamayim.

Murphy has been criticized by anti-Semites and some in the media for being 'sold' to Lakewood (even though it was so not true). If he doesn't get Lakewood's votes, all politicians will say that it's not worth it to do favors for Lakewood.

That's a basic understanding of what they mean by "hakaras hatov"
