Insurance on Free Rental Car Voucher

Hi. I have a voucher for 2 free days of car rental from Avis which they gave me when the car I rented from them broke down last year. The question is - is there any way to have a credit card cover the rental car insurance since the car rental is free? Usually, the credit card will only cover the insurance if you pay for the rental with the credit card but here the rental is free.

usually, there will be some taxes even if you have free rental so I would assume if you use your cc to pay for it it should be covered.
