I thought Tello is now under Tmobile network now but the above tag phones link seems to consider them as 2 different carriers?  whatever is good for T-mobile should work for Tello?

I have Tello and based on what I read here and elsewhere I purchased a Nokia 225 4g phone for my children. I can confirm that the phone does NOT have wifi, so if you have no data plan you should be good without any need to Tag it. Of course, you can do what you want. (The Nokia 6300 4g has wifi, I also bought that one for my child who has an AT&T mvno.)

Tello plan with just talk and text seems to give a tiny drop of data at the beginning of the month.
Anyone else seeing this?

They told me it cant be set to have 0 data so it gives 1mb at each new cycle.

These both work. The operative word is 4g. If you search for nokia 6300 without specifying '4g' you might end up with an old model which is not compatible. You might also want to look for an unlocked model. As far as whatsapp goes I think it's installed on the 6300 4g. I don't have whatsapp and I don't have a data plan. However the 6300 4g has built in wifi. The Nokia 225 4g (again, when searching make sure to include '4g' in the search) doesn't have wifi. It does have a browser but I don't have a data plan...

It does come with a drop of data, but as per customer support they're able to block it completely.

I can confirm. It was enough to scroll through dozens of google images before running out of data. I imagine with safe search off it can give quite an exposure to a kid each month.

Did you try calling customer support to turn it off completely?

Until what age would you be comfortable to let your kid with this kind of filter. How hard it is to run in to a kiosk and but another sim card?

If that's the case they can also buy an Android prepaid smartphone for $20...

+1 if your kid has cash and the ability and will to go to a kiosk there is nothing to stop him from viewing the worst of the worst. What we are talking about is a good kid who might play around with the kosher phone he is already holding. Those of us who still have some sanity understand that handing a kid a phone with unfiltered internet access, even minimal, is like handing a kid a loaded  gun with only one bullet.

Not exactly.
Most kids won't risk buying a phone and bringing it home. A SIM card can much easier be hidden...
