Brother MFC-L2710 - Change printers name on network?
« on: October 22, 2021, 04:42:52 PM »
I share a network with others we both have the same Brother MFC-L2710 printer. As a result, we end up sending print jobs to the "wrong" printer. I know that you can change the name of the printer as seen on my computer. Is there a way to change the name for anyone connecting through the network? Alternatively, can I make my printer invisible to other users? Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

You can probably change the host name on the printer's web page.

You need to change the share name not the hostname.

Is that the same as the node name referred to by @yossi? I don't remember creating a password for the web interface. Is "initpass" always the default?

No it’s not the same. No need to log on to web interface. All you need to do change the share name. It can be found on the printer properties.

This does not seem to work, as I still see the printer from my phone with the generic printer name. Is it possible that the Windows menu for sharing is only when the printer is being share with the network through the computer? Currently, my printer is connected directly to the Wifi network which is shared with those who I do not want them printing using my printer.
