So $10,000 at a store that gives you 3* points nets you Gold status. Good time for buyer groups. Not so much for flyers.

If you’re spending in a category that’s bonused, you only earn Loyalty Points for the “base” spending, meaning one Loyalty Point for every dollar spent; in other words, if a card offers two AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on American Airlines flight purchases, you’d still only earn one Loyalty Point

Doesn't say that about shopping through their portal. Did you see anything about that?

I did not, but seeing that they explicitly noted it here I assume it would be the same through a shopping portal.

What's the *base* points?

FYI the Aviator Silver card will start offering up to 15K Loyalty Points per year instead of the current EQM/EQD at these spend milestones:

$20K = 5K Loyalty Points ("LP" from here on out)
$40K = 5K LP
$50K = 5K LP

So $25K spend on the card and you hit Gold (25K LP from spend, plus 5K bonus LP from milestone), or $60K total spend to hit Platinum.

Considering the $50 wifi credit, $25 per day food/bev credit, $99 companion pass for 2 additional pax at $20K spend, and free luggage for up to 8, the value proposition is quite interesting.

Anyone know if Flight Cents (round up to nearest dollar and "buy" miles) count toward LP?

I believe, 1 point per dollar, and any bonus would be bonus spend.

I think once your platinum pro u can give up the executive card and go with a cheaper version card as ull get lounge access from being platinum.

Am I missing anything? Why isn't this news generating more headlines? For years I have been waiting for a card which allows you to earn top tier status via spending only....

Is that indeed the case? I can earn Exac Plat just by spending enough? What about systemwide upgrades?

If it came with SWUs it would be a no brainer.
Without the SWUs it's a tougher decision to make. Big opportunity cost compared to spending on a Double Cash card for double the miles.

Plus EXPs used to have advantages like free redeposits and waived expedite fees that are now gone for all.

Citi biz card earns 2x AA + 1% cash back at GetGo. That's tough to beat. Shame they shut me down.

Shut down all your Citi cards?
How much were you doing?

It's good for people that put spend on a card, not for actual elites.
It makes sense for a bank to put their top spenders in an elite category, but for an airline to do so, is like pushing frequent flyers away.
