If you do want to try and cancel. Try to get credit with the rental car company and then rebook and have left over credit if possible.. vs refund to cc which you'll lose out on.

Meaning that card year is over. You get three hundred dollars in travel credit every card member year.
So should he want to get a refund for his original charge? He'll lose out on that whole amount.

Meaning if you don't use the credit that year it will go unused, And should you want to cancel a trip that you used the credit for and the card year has passed, you will lose that money as well, As you won't get back any credit if it's past expiration date.

The rebook wouldn't have insurance coverage though since it is no longer connected to the card.

I’m seeing that it’s a few days over a year since the first annual fee, and still wasn’t charged the new AF. However no downgrade option…
