Is there a workaround to cancel a flight with American Express travel after 24hours?
Like changing the reservation and then cancel within 24 hours?

Not really. Amex is simply a middle man, so unless they specifically say they allow cancellations after the 24 hour mark passes, you'd be subject to the airlines cancellation policy.
