Booked from Tel Aviv to JFK and British Canceled the flight

Booked from Tel Aviv to JFK for Pesach and British Canceled the flight. Now they want me to set up a new flight. Originally, i had a 6 hour stopover and a 2 hour stopover on the return. Now the only available flight is with a 12 hour stopover and a 6 hour stopover. What can i do and what can i demand from them legally? We are a family of 10.

When something like that happened to me on AirFrance I had l luck getting re-accommodated on a Delta nonstop which was pretty sweet. Maybe see if they can put you on American?

Though Delta, KLM and AirFrance are more closely related.

no, i got a really great deal. i would like a different flight to the US. I spoke with them today and the only thing they said they can do is put me on a flight the night before with a 12 hour stopover.

So nothing you can do. Regular airline policy is to provide an alternative or a refund. If you are not happy with the alternative they don't have to offer anything else besides a refund unless its done right before a flight which doesn't apply in your case.

There can be more then one alternative. Sometimes it takes asking the right questions / being prepared with additional info (like what the airline official schedule change policy allows, and other flights that may match)..


And next time, think again about why you chose to not book through a travel agent this time.

Best you can do is find an alternative that is more suitable to you on BA partners (even better if it’s with BA on different dates) and try to get them to reaccommodate on that.

That's less likely to work than another BA flight (on another suitable date, that doesn't require overnight in LHR). Why don't you line that up for when they say no to the AA direct option?

I know someone that had the same issue before Covid and BA compensated him and his wife for the hotel they needed to stay at overnight (LHR closes). Might be more complicated with Covid and 10 people though.

So when i talked to them they said that company policy is that they recognize that they messed us over and that we should claim the hotel stay afterwards and that they will probably pay for it. i asked them about about transportation to and from the hotel and she didn't have a clear answer. i asked her if she minds if i record it and she said she doesn't mind but she was more careful with her words afterwards.

Transportation in London is expensive. I remember I used to fly ULCCs to London and pay less for a two hour flight than transportation to/from the airport.

Boruch Hashem it all worked out! They gave me El-Al to Heathrow with a short stopover and then direct to the city i was going to in the US.

Well, it seems like the whole time they were admitting that they messed us over. So its not like they were trying to rip us off or anything. But the first time i called, i must have gotten someone who was not knowledgeable of all the options so i said that i want to think it over of either a refund or a night stopover.
The second time i called, Hashem sent us a guy who spent a long amount of time (about an hour) looking up all of our options and i guess he saw that he could put us on El-Al to the UK (although he did tell us that El-Al unfortunately does not have Kosher meals ) and we could then fly BA to the US.
