There's actually something to this. If you watch Russian TV, Putin has had several press conferences where he explicitly states how downhill things are going in America. Our fighting government, our new freedoms of gender, etc. And more and more of my parents generation are telling me if things continue - they are happy to move back. In-fact I know a handful of people who have moved back now. With work-from-home happening, the freedom to live in Moscow on an NYC salary is, frankly, pretty comfortable. I noticed this during the last few trips also, where a good healthy organic breakfast cost me $11, for 2. And a 45 minute cab ride cost me $9.

To me it seems like you and PG are saying two totally different things. PG is talking about Putin perpetuating an old Soviet canard about how everything in Russia is better than everything in the west.

What you're talking about is something completely different, individual Russian Expats making a personal decision that might make sense to them considering their circumstances and priorities.

I guess I was trying to connect how Putin's latest wave of "marketing" regarding how everything is better, is playing a role in changing the minds of russian expats, and some westerners. Take a look at the sheer amount of moving to moscow vlogs that have popped up on YouTube within the last year. However you may also be right.

I will 100% concede that I'm seriously concerned that America has passed the point of no return and it's downhill from here. But Russia isn't anywhere on my sights, and nothing Putin says will change that...

This thought experiment would be relevant to Russia if:

1 - Mexico had recently gotten out of the oppression of the US.
2 - The US installed a puppet government in Mexico.
3 - The US had recently decided to take a chunk of Mexico for ourselves.
