IMHO, the answer to that is: Physically? After Ukraine implodes, not a second earlier. There is likely to be cyber warfare, and possibly building internal support for Russia within Ukraine.

150k troops can't stay staged there for more than a few weeks. Tent conditions are too poor and morale collapses.

Personally, I think it was going to happen today but the rain postponed. Mud isn't good for tanks.

Postponed today simply to show the world that they are lying when they said the war will start this day

I have no idea what Putin has up his sleeve, but you can be sure that he will do everything imaginable (or unimaginable) so that Ukraine doesn't become part of NATO.

IMHO his greatest leverage is with the Germans, who desperately need his energy supplies.
