Does anyone have these- they cost about $250. Are they worth it?

It’s a Victorinox bread knife that can be had on Amazon any day for $30-40, with a sterling silver handle.

It’s probably a decent bread knife, but I’m sure there are off brands that do the job just as well. The big thing is finding a place that sharpens blades (especially serrated blades) properly, or they’ll ruin an otherwise fine/beautiful Challah knife that could have been made to function like new by someone with the right equipment and skills.

I like this one.  :)
https://www.judaicawebstore.com/bier-judaica-925-sterling-silver-hammered-victorinox-challah-knife

For $1,100 it should have been a premium-brand blade, not a basic Victorinox…

Another important thing to consider is that the handle is as functional as it is pretty, otherwise it could ch”v slip and injure someone (or just make a mess of crumbs) while cutting through a water Challah and the like.

Should they last years without sharpening?

As my family developed a liking for sourdough, most Challah knifes just don't cut it (pun intended).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I’ve seen some that have, but it also depends on volume, who’s cutting, what kind of Challah, etc.

My experience with victorinox. (But challah cutting is probably harder on a knife than other things)

Certainly an acquired taste. You can always use a chain saw before Shabbos :P

It is usually the board that dulls the knife. Serrated blades are somewhat protected.

Which is why I say “who’s cutting”. Sometimes people (oftentimes kids) are in a hurry to get the bottom crust cut and they grind the blade against the cutting board.

We have two carving knives. One for me and one for the rest of the family.
Sounds like the kids should have their own.  :)

Are you asking about the quality of the blade or the quality of the handle?
