Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

To be fair I didn't PM your OR achas v'achas. I figured that anyone who really wants me to know something can PM me themselves

I am shocked religion has not been brought into this. Maybe some are actually learning the difference.  :)
If I wanted a religious answer I would ask my Rabbi. Right now I wanted to hear what people around there think of the issue.
When I have a practical shaila I don't turn to DDF :)

As I once said (can't find it to quote) anything you say can and will be used to start a religious discussion.

BTW, in halacha I am pretty sure it would not be called gilui sod

Is it ethical to make a new FFN to get the sign up bonus for the United card when if you used your old one they wouldn't give it to you (due to having the card in the last 24 months)?

Is it ethical to resign up for the Sapphire, when you know you'll get the bonus even though it's not 24 months?

No comparison. The United card I'm intentionally making a new ffn to mislead them because they don't catch on. The CSP there's no ffn.

+1. Chase has the ability to check when you last got the bonus.  In the United scenario, the applicant is trying to mislead chase /United

I think Chase can definitely use your SSN to see that you've had the UA card before and gotten the bonus on it. At the same time, when I explained the SP situation to my Rav, he didn't think there was an issue at all since "if you're putting in the exact same application, it's the bank's responsibility to monitor who has had the bonus before", but when I described the UMPE situation and that you need to change the FFN, he said as classicly as a Rabbi can, "ehhhh".

In my mind, it is also somewhat similar to Amazon payments, where you say goods and services...

Yeah but that can be justified in my mind. Account B is providing a service to Account A by receiving its money and paying off its cc bill. Service is a very loose term.

I personally have not done ap for a while because of this, but I think it could potentially be justified with the concept that it makes no difference to Amazon... They are probably asking because they have to

I just moved into a new apartment and for about $1000 in cash tucked away in the bed frame. Should I return it?

who would you be able to return it to? it seems chances of it getting to it's rightful owner are slim, I would say keep it, give some to charity, JMHO
