Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

Going back to the carpool shailah. Three families carpool their kids to/from school. two families have 1 child, and one family has two children in school. Does the family with two children have to carpool an extra time, since they have two children in the carpool?

BTW, in the original shailah, I think the couple pays double.
Is child 2 sitting on child 1's lap?
Probably not. Since child 2 is taking up a space in the car, the parents should be responsible for the extra ride.

If child 2 wasn't there, there would probably be 1 kid from family number 4 taking that child's place and those parents would be driving everyone to school.

If there's no family 4 that would want that spot, that could make it a bit trickier.

I dont see how you could think on the first case the couple pays double but in this case the fabulous with 2 children only has to do one share

I just asked the question.
In school carpools, half the hassle (or more) is stopping at each house and getting the kids out (depending on the kids' ages of course).

I don't get the card deal, but if he's giving you a free Slurpee, he's cheating his employer, isn't he?
Are  you allowed to receive 'stolen goods'?
It's a buy 6, get the seventh free card.
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

I was in plenty of carpools as a kid, often with at least one family having 2 kids in the carpool. That's just not the way it's done. Each family does an equal number of days.

I think in carpools you count the number of mommys/daddys.   :D
Each parent unit is assigned an equal number of days regardless of how many kids.  Although someone with 5 kids may have trouble getting partners from the 1 kid per family crowd- not enough seats in the other parents 5 seat SUV.

Someone just start a carpool rules thread.
It should be the way the carpool members agree.
Either way is ethical.

Is it ethical to be a broker on something w/o telling the buyer that you're making money on him?

meaning you buy something off someone and and sell it to another and he doesnt realize he could really earn more on it?
i dont see why.
does this question have anything to do with this?
I need to come up with 10k. Was thinking of borrowing money from RC and recycling money through my cc's every month... before I pull the trigger is there any downside to this? TIA

its more like telling person A that B is charging X when he's realy charging Y and I'm keeping the diff.

No it does not have anything to do with that.

The correct answer would be 1.  ::)

lets say your selling something and the buyer asks you how much you paid. Its non of his biz... and I would say you can lie to protect yourself. in this case I'm not actually buying anything but I think it shld work the same way...

Problem is, you are lying about what B charges. Why not just buy it from person A for X and sell it to person B for Y?

+1  And if the buyer asks what you paid, evade.
Would it be too hard to tell him that you're making money on the deal?
