Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

If you shop as a family, probably unethical. Please convince me otherwise.

But not the household's.
Do the T&Cs say one promo code per household?

I don't know. Let's assume it doesn't say that explicitly. Isn't it obvious that that want the "household" to start using them.

Here would be my argument that it's okay:

In some households, members make entirely independent shopping decisions, so they eant to entice each member to shop with them.

So, any member - spouse or older child - would qualify, but not little kids.

I'm not sure.

Many promos, in general, say one per household. When they don't, I don't assume for them that that is what they meant. I don't see any reason in the world for each member of the household not to take advantage of the promo. For one person to "use" all of the names of everyone he/she knows (in or out of the household) to make multiple orders with the same promo code that is meant to be one per person without those people even knowing that the orders are being made, THAT may be different.

If you feel that it is unethical to follow the rules they made because really they want it to be more restrictive than that then maybe DDF is not the right place for you.

Email to Jet.com:

Subject: Membership/coupons

Can my wife start her own free membership and take advantage of the $10 off? We are at the same address.

Thanks.

Response:

Hi xxxx,

Thanks so much for getting in touch with us today.

Regarding our $10 promo codes, they are linked to the credit card & addresses that are submitted on your account. So to protect our members, if a code is used twice for the same address or credit card, our system will recognize that and deny it for possible fraud activity. This is a great question, so I'm glad you got in touch with us to verify.

If you think of anything else we can assist you with, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Have a great Monday & thank you for being part of the Jet family, xxxx!

I don't define unethical that way, or perhaps I don't define "the rules they made" the same way you do.

There is a lot of shtick on DDF which I think is shady, a lot that's not, and probably even more that I don't understand.

Does that mean DDF is not for me? I don't think so. I think I just need to be careful.

1 - I can tell you for a fact there system is not working all the time.
2 - I don't need their protection for fraud.

Not even a question, but to submit the rebate on something I returned.

Someone posts that he is selling a chase 200/100 checking coupon for $15.
Is it ethical to post the public link from chase for $300? I'm ruining his 'business' but I'm helping some unsuspecting fellow.

Thoughts please...

Selling the 200/100 for $15 is the unethical part not what you are doing.

Not at all unethical.
