Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

will apple share that with me?
Probably. They definitely have them stored, and are accessible for phones. There is one on the device box, and in the settings.

That has nothing to do with whether the actual scenario is ethical. You're just constructing an ethical hypothetical that's functionally equivalent.
Just seeing this now. That was perfectly worded, great post.
If you don't care why would you comment?

Price matching from a site that you don't feel is legit enough to order from? Not sure if it would go through anyway, but don't see any reason it shouldn't.

Don't see the question. If they will price match to there, what's the problem?

I'm thinking along the lines of, if I photoshop a screenshot and they accept it, it doesn't make it right. They're price matching legit prices. Just my thoughts.

If they deem that site legit, what's the problem?

Most sores have policies about which places they price-match (like no 3rd party sellers on Amazon etc.)

Some places ask for a link to the stores website when trying to price match to avoid any such issues.

interesting question. You can "pocket" 5x points (if you're not required to book through corporate travel department) back with Amex MR on flight bookings and earn frequent flyer miles on company travel. Would the per night rate on the hotel room be any less using your company's preferred booking channel? If yes, I don't think this is ethical. If not, I hear the argument that you have effectively paid for the an annual fee on the card for a number of benefits, including the ability to receive the rebated 4th night.

Clearly if you're paying more, that's a no go. Let's assume it's the same price.

Do they give you an allowance, or do they just pay what you pay?

The latter. Let's assume it's a specific hotel for which they have a corporate rate and you can get that rate via Citi prestige

The latter
Hmm. In my opinion, assuming for some reason you couldn't ask you boss or whomever, if it is a discount that they wouldn't be able to get if not for you, then you should be entitled to it. If they have the same card with the same benefits, or paid for your card, I'd say it shouldn't be done.

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards (asking my boss). Still not sure exactly who I should be asking, though
But it's definitely not a discount they could get

Think about it like this, if they were to say no, you can just say that you will not be putting it on your card. They have no access to this rate, therefore they are not capable of saving on the free night.

Agreed, question is, is that enough of a reason for me not to have to ask

I'd ask regardless, as proving your honesty is probably worth more than the money you'll make, and may very well cause them to give you a yes anyway. But if you ask, my above stated reason is a great argument. Also, knowing the situation, what do feel the reaction would be from your boss/whoever?

Any company would require a receipt to be reimbursed, if your receipt says your total is the cost of 3 nights how do you expect to get reimbursed for the 4th night?
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
