Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

If they're right about the law that's interesting. And then there's the ethical question. And if they're right about the law maybe it's assur to return them?

Quote
Hi ,
Looks like the item you are returning does not need to be returned to Target this time in order for you to get your refund. Feel free to keep it, recycle or donate it! If the item was damaged, please dispose of it safely. Thanks for your help!
is it ethical to bring back to target without the receipt to get a store credit?

As ethical as if you bought it in Walmart.

Because they're giving you a store credit on a false premise. Don't see how this could possibly be ethical or halachic

Sesame Place sells season passes with a payment plan, but the initial payment is much cheaper than a 2-day pass and includes many more benefits. Is it ethical to sign up for the season pass, use it right away, and then not make the future payments?? Of course, they would then cancel the pass, but that’s fine with me. Is this any different than financing a purchase, defaulting, and losing the collateral?

YMMV but not every store has a problem even if you didn't buy it by them. Hard to know with a Large store like Target.

Ok, so go in and tell them the whole story, if you're sure they don't mind it should be fine

I wasn't suggesting otherwise. He can just ask if he's allowed to return s/t not bought there.

Why not say the truth? Here's a script:
Hi, I bought this online and it's not what I really needed. I wanted to return it and they told me I can just keep it. Would it be okay to exchange it for a store credit?

Isn't Target.com the same company as Target stores? What is the issue?

He already got a refund.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Ordered a bunch of items with rebates from Macy's last November. There were issues where a bunch of the rebates didn't come and I had to call/chat with them repeatedly to get them. In the end, 2 of them either showed up later, or had gotten buried in a pile of old mail, I think...I tried calling them to ask if these were the 2 that had been replaced, but there's no option to talk to someone by calling the # on the card, just to activate it - and it seems to have worked.

Long story short - I'm not sure if these were GCs I was supposed to have gotten, or if they were replaced by Macys.

If they replaced the card as having been lost in the mail, would they have canceled the old card? Is the fact that they now work proof that the cards are really mine, and I can use them?

If I'm not sure, is it ethical to use them?

Macys gains nothing if you don't use them. If they are prepaid cards Macys is already out the money.

Can I use citi price rewind on shoes in a different size?

EG: I bought shoes in size 10 for $100 and then I see the same shoe in size 8 for $50
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Are you asking "can you" or "is it ethical"?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Dunno but once enrolled a pair of shoes with citi price rewind and (the automated system) found them cheaper, in a different size and color, and still credited me.

If you are submitting the lower price, the adjuster might see its a different size and not credit you. But if they don't,  that's their problem....
