Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

I bought a certain type of wd40 from Walmart. Sprayed it once then found out that it's the wrong type. Would you return it?

I at first thought no but now I'm thinking yes because that's exactly what a return policy is for. Second of all it's a tiny amount and even if Walmart decides to restock it the next buyer won't care that it's missing a negligible amount.

I would tell the store what happened, let them decide if it's within their policy..

If you're honest and upfront about it, it's completely ethical.

Stealing blank gift cards to use in a different store?
Not even the same chain.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I did an in store pickup but for some reason it didn’t get marked as picked up. Soon, the system will automatically cancel the order and refund me. I reached out to the company to notify them that it was really picked up. They transferred me a few times and then hung up on me. Should I continue to hunt them down to give them back their own money?

IMO you did your part, just move on. I'm not sure you were even required to reach out, but that was a noble move. If it's a big corp, they probably will tell you to just forget it either way.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

Photographer got paid over $8,000 to shoot wedding. Including in the price is an edited video, some 30-60 picture albums, a couple of large prints, and 4×6 prints of all the pictures. I asked if I can have a drive of all pictures and they told me they charge $200 for EACH picture! I can buy prints for $30-$95 a picture. Is that Ethical? I just want a Screensaver on my phone and access to print at Walgreens. Didn't know I was dealing with Picture People.

This is a big issue and needs to be spelled out in the contract. My daughter paid extra to get all the pictures digitally besides the album/pictures.

Half the resolution.
Good enough for a phone screen saver (though in general this topic gets me frustrated too)
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

I think this company should have came to the wedding for free with a $25 booking fee if they want me to pay for access to my pictures. It wasn't even a thought that I have to look out for such a thing in the contract.

IINM they make the money from printing the pics, they charge a hefty price and cover their other costs with that. For years we only do family portraits with photographers that'll give the actual originals on DVD. I want to be able to edit my pictures however I want and print it wherever I want

You're sure it's $200 a picture and not each thumb drive?
That's highway robbery!

Probably each thumb drive but each thumb drive has one picture on it.  :)

That is ridiculous, but unfortunately on par for the industry. This sounds like a little too much but I'm not familiar. I only use a photographer who I trust and doesn't operate this way.
