Ideally, I think we want a bassinet option so that we don't have to strap the baby into a car seat-like position, but all recommendations are appreciated.
(Also, the seat/stand-along options are ok, but not ideal for a curious toddler... so we don't mind those extras but not as a primary mode of transport)
Ease of use, smooth push/ride, and weight/bulkiness are key. I know. we want it all  8)
Thanks in advance.

On that note, the UBV is a favorite around here for some use cases.especially for rough terrain
I have one BNIB (bassinet included)
reselling for $700

On a more useful note:
Are you looking for side by side? Or front /back?

When we were looking for side by side, mountain buggy duet was the only one that fit through apartment doors. Not bassinet sold separately on that...

Thanks! I think front-back, does that exist? (with bassinet option)

UBV? I googled, but came up with anything but a stroller...?

Look at pictures of how they are positioned and see if you want your kids sitting like that on top of each other.
(The benefit is that it is narrow vs side by side)

Yup. We have the Duet and I'm often surprised by how narrow it is. It's 25" wide. No bassinet option though.

The duet is a touch narrower than a Vista :)

The bassinet is a benefit though.

I've also wondered how those are on steps. With a kid sitting that low and that far forward I imagine it might be hard to bump it up or down steps.

You may want to look into the Valco Baby Snap Duo Trend
It's less than 29" wide
You can attach a car seat
There's a bassinet option
it's only 24lbs
:-)
